Sympathies
On behalf of all in the club we’d like to express our deepest sympathies to the Hogan Family, on the sad passing of Thomas Hogan, Youghal. A native of Ballinacourty, Thomas and his brothers played many years with the club, indeed in 1957 three of them lined out together in that years Senior Hurling final. A goalkeeper of some renown he minded the net in both hurling and football.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Thomas’s family and friends at this difficult time.

Former Teammates
In light of recent events in the parish, we felt it appropriate to dig this photo out of the archives. Pictured of course are Bernard Shields and Eddie Moore, both sadly recently departed. This was taken on 27th July 2015 when we held on of our Hurling On The Green events in McCarthyville and both men took the opportunity to catch up on the latest goings on around the village. Both men of course played in the 1964 Senior final and the following year were involved when we won the Intermediate Football title.

Academy
There was a great display of football from our U9's in Stradbally last night when they took part in the blitz organized by Waterford Coaching & Games Development Deise Og.
Well done boys!

U9 Footballers in Stradbally

U11
We only had half the usual group on Sunday morning (Sept 21st) travelling to Castlemartyr to play Kiltha Óg in a hurling challenge. The weather was kind to us and the boys hurled really well with some good striking and team play.
Thanks to jersey sponsor: Mousie's Takeaway.

U11 Hurlers in Castlemartyr

U12
We had two U12 teams playing in the end of season Festival of Hurling which was organized by Déise Óg. On Tuesday (Sept 16th) the division 1 boys hosted Cois Bríd and played really well to take the victory.  On Sunday (Sept 21st) the division 4 team played Ballygunner in Carriganore. Despite a gallant effort from the Abbeyside boys, they weren't able to take the win but they've had a really good season and have developed throughout. Well done to Cian & Rua on their Man of the Match awards in their respective finals.

U14
Best of luck to our U14 hurlers who travel to Stradbally on Monday (Sept 22nd) to take on Clonea Power in the division 1 plate final at 6:15pm.

U16
Our second U16 football team hit the ground running last Thursday night (18th Sept) in the opening round of the Division 3 Championship away to Roanmore.
The hosts started strongly, racing into a 2–2 lead without reply, but the Ballinacourty boys soon found their rhythm and delivered a spirited performance to secure a 5–6 to 3–3 victory.
The moment of the night belonged to Micheál O’Grady, making his long-awaited return after two years of battling injury. Coming off the bench, Micheál marked his comeback in style with a fantastic goal from his very first touch!
Well done to Micheál and all the lads!
Thanks to jersey sponsor: Tom Flynn Bus Hire.

Sympathies
On behalf of all in the club we’d like to express our deepest sympathies to the Moore Family, McCarthyville on the sad passing of Edde Moore. A native of Holycross in Co Tipperary Eddie wore the club colours for many years, playing in the Senior Hurling County Final of 1964 versus Mount Sion, in which the city side took the honours by 3-6 to 1-6. A year later in 1965 he was involved in Ballinacourty’s historic first ever county championship winning side, which captured the County Intermediate title & earned our place in the senior ranks for the very first time.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Eddie’s family and friends at this difficult time.

Academy Update
Our juvenile GAA academy continues to be a hive of activity, with young players enjoying a perfect blend of fun, skill development, and coordination through exciting games built around both hurling and football. The emphasis is always on enjoyment while learning, and our enthusiastic coaches are on hand each week to encourage and guide the players, ensuring that new joiners feel welcome from day one. This past Saturday, our U8 hurlers had the added enjoyment of taking part in an all-county blitz in Leamybrien, where they lined out against teams from across the county. The boys had a fantastic morning of hurling, making friends, learning new skills, and most importantly, having great fun representing the club.

U8s at All County Blitz

U11
Our U11 boys continue their busy schedule with the final round of the Déise Óg series this coming week. They welcome St. Olivers and the Nire to the Burgery on Monday (15th Sept) and they're on the road to Butlerstown on Thursday evening. While it may the the final outing in the Déise Óg series, the boys are far from finished, with matches scheduled for Kiltha Óg in Cork and other opponents in the near future.

U12
The U12 boys were disappointed to find out that the Déise Óg Festival of Hurling had to be postponed due to the terrible weather that landed on Sunday morning. One half of group were scheduled to play Cois Bríd while the other half were due to face Ballygunner. As always, the coaches are busy behind the scenes, working to make sure the matches can be played as soon as possible.

Abbeyside U15s Win Pat Roche Memorial Tournament in Blackrock
Our U15 hurlers had a day to remember in Blackrock GAA Club, capturing the inaugural Pat Roche Memorial Tournament title.
We’d like to sincerely thank Blackrock for the kind invitation and for hosting such a well-run and enjoyable competition. Despite not having been together as a group since April, our lads worked tirelessly, showing great determination, skill, and above all, teamwork throughout the day.
Along the way, Abbeyside overcame the host club Blackrock to reach the final. The decider against Cashel King Cormacs GAA proved to be a real thriller, with Abbeyside digging deep to edge an exciting contest and take home the silverware.
A special word of congratulations goes to Killian Hagan, who was deservedly named Player of the Tournament for his outstanding performances.
The panel on the day was: Aaron Lacey, Brian Morrissey, Dara Byrne, Dara Power, Darrach McGrath, Darragh Enright, Donnchadh Callaghan, Feargus Nee, Fergus Donnelly, Fionn Connolly, Fionnán Murray, Gary Kiely, Isaac Walsh, Killian Hagan, Lochlainn Hurney, Luke Fitzgerald, Luke Walsh, Natanas Lunskis, Rian Cliffe (C) and Theo King.
Well done boys!

Academy Update
Our academy is still in full swing, bringing joy and excitement to all involved. The "Well Kids" programme was a great success, filled with fun, exercise, and engaging activities, and the kids were thrilled to receive jerseys as a bonus.
The U7's had a fantastic time playing a very enjoyable hurling blitz in Lismore, while the U9's travelled to Kill and gave a fantastic account of themselves in the blue and gold of Abbeyside.
The U10's were also on the road, with two teams playing matches in Tramore, showcasing their skills and teamwork. It's been a wonderful week of sports and camaraderie for our young athletes!

Abbeyside Claim U12 James O’Brien Cup in Midleton
Abbeyside’s U12 hurlers produced a display of outstanding teamwork and determination to capture the 2025 James O’Brien Cup in Park South, Midleton, on Sunday, August 31st
Facing strong opposition from Éire Óg, Midleton, and Erin’s Own, the Abbeyside panel showed resilience and collective spirit throughout the group stages, with every player contributing to the team’s success. Their ability to combine skill with relentless work-rate brought them through to the final, where once again teamwork proved decisive.
Well done boys!!

U14 Hurling
Our U14 hurlers are preparing to play Clonea Power in the division 1 plate final this Thursday. Time and venue to be confirmed. Best of luck boys.

U16 Hurling
After an epic battle last Monday (1st Sept), our U16 hurlers bowed out of the championship at the semi final stage against Roanmore. Unusually for a county semi final, it was a home fixture for our opponents, but the Abbeyside boys didn’t let this affect them and the put in a very spirited performance, full of fast hurling and intensity with a goal separating the teams at the final whistle. It was great to see a good crowd travelling down from the village to support the boys and everyone was in agreement that the boys gave their all and the result could easily have been different.
It's on to football for this group now with the championship starting this coming Sunday – best of luck boys!

Academy Update
The schools are back up and running and our Saturday morning academy continues to deliver fun activities and games for boys aged 5 to 10 years.  Call out to our club grounds any Saturday morning to join in the fun.

U10 & U11
Disappointingly, the weather put paid to plans for our U10 and U11's on Saturday morning. The U10's were scheduled to head for Midleton on a bus to play a hurling blitz and the U11's were due to go to Carrickbeg to play hurling and football but the wind and rain meant that both events were cancelled. There will still be plenty of opportunity for the boys to enjoy away days before the season finishes.

U12 Festival of Football
The Under 12 football season ended on a high with two fantastic final games against Stradbally and Clashmore. The Ballinacourty boys coming out the right side of both results.
As the group dug into the clubs under age talent, 31 boys from under 10, 11 and 12 participated in 17 football matches, forming two really spirited teams. Their commitment and teamwork were outstanding, and the quality of football in the final games was a real credit to the group.
Played under the GAA Go-Games format, the season focused on fun, development, and inclusion. The boys showed great progress, with some excellent team play emerging toward the end of the programme.
Huge appreciation goes to the 4 young referees who officiated so well for us throughout the season. We hope they enjoyed the experience and will continue to ref.
With football now complete, attention turns to the remainder of the Under 12 hurling programme, some great challenge games and the exciting challenge of fielding a Division 4 team in the Under 13 championship.

U16
The U16 boys continued the division 1 championship campaign last Monday (25th Sept) when De La Salle came to play in the Burgery. A solid performance from the boys meant that they were in control throughout the match and took the victory with a scoreline of 4:20 to 2:08. This resulted in qualification for the county semi final on 1st September against Roanmore with the match taking place in Roanmore. Keep any eye on social media for an update on the game.

Intercounty Activity
Well done to the Abbeyside boys who lined out for their county on Saturday in their respective championships.
First up we have Tadgh O'Connor, Lochlainn Hurney and Dara Power who played in the U14 Tony Forristal tournament. They came second in their group to the Cork team that went on to win the competition outright.
Also we had Dara Byrne, Rian Cliffe, Fionnán Murray and Killian Hagan who played in the Arrabawn Cup in Tipperary.
Finally at the U16 grade we had Alex Doyle, Coleman Radley, Dara Sullivan, Seán Óg O'Regan, Jack Hurney and Owen Morrissey who, having beat Kilkenny, lost to a strong Dublin team in the Michael Foley Cup semi final.
Well done boys, all in the club are very proud of you!

Development Fund
Abbeyside/Ballinacourty GAA Club has been growing at a dramatic pace over the past 10 years with the population of our parish increasing rapidly. We must ensure that we have the best facilities for all our players. We want to ensure that the next generation have the facilities that they need and deserve. We are asking supporters and friends to support this project over the next five years.
