Juvenile Notes - 12th August

Underage Hurling

Hurling training for all groups from U6’s, U7’s, U8’s and U9’s will recommence this Saturday morning, 15th August at 10.30. Looking forward to seeing all the boys back after their summer break. Any new members looking to join any of these groups are welcome.

Minor Hurling

We played St. Pats last night Tuesday, 11th August in Colligan in the fourth round of the Minor Hurling Championship. At the time of going to print the result of this match was not available but will be included in next week’s notes.

Leaving Certificate

The Club would like to wish the best of luck to anybody receiving their Leaving Cert results.

Under 13

Our under 13 hurling team are due to play Dungarvan this Thursday night in Abbeyside.

Under 14

Congratulations to our U14 hurling team who won the Western Final last Wednesday evening against The Brickeys. After an outstanding display we came out on top on a scoreline of 4.08 to 2.08. Well done to all.

We also played Roanmore on Monday night last in the County Championship. The result of this game will be included in next week’s notes.

Western U14 Division 1 Hurling Champions, 2015

Under 16

Our U16 hurling team were beaten by near neighbours Dungarvan on Saturday last on a scoreline of 2.16 to 2.13. This was the third round of the Hurling League. We played very well in the second half after a poor first half display and were unlucky in defeat in the final minutes.

Hurling on the Green

Hurling on the Green will take place again tonight (Wednesday, 12th August) in An Grianán estate between 7 and 8pm. All children between the ages of 5 and 8 are welcome. Click here for details.

Under 12

Our U12 hurling team had a fabulous day out on Friday last in Thurles. On the day they played 4 games with victory in every game. They also got a tour of the famous Semple Stadium by Tipperary hurling star Michael Cahill. This was a great day out and one which the lads will remember for a long time to come. Thank you to all the players, parents and mentors who travelled on the day. This team also play a blitz this Saturday morning in Lismore. Good luck to all.

County Intermediate Hurling Champions, 2003

This week's photo comes from 2003 and shows captain John Paul Keohan being raised shoulder high following Abbeyside's dramatic last minute 3-12 to 4-8 victory over Erin's Own in the County Intermediate Hurling Championship Final at Walsh Park. After many years of near misses, the club returned to the senior ranks of Waterford hurling.

Western U14 Division 1 Hurling Champions

Congratulations to our U14 panel and management team on winning the Western Division 1 Hurling title in Fraher Field last night. In an exciting game of hurling, the boys emerged victorious over Brickey Rangers on a scoreline of 4-8 to 2-8. This completes a Western double for this group of players, having won the football title earlier in the year.

Hurling on the Green Night 3 - Cancelled

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Abbeyside / Ballinacourty GAA Club has cancelled tonight's 'Hurling on the Green' due to take place in Ballinroad. Alternative arrangements for next week are currently being finalised and will be announced in the coming days. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Club Notes - 5th August

Jack The Joker

No. Drawn - 18

Our ever popular Jack the Joker fundraiser continues this Sunday night in Minnies Bar where the jackpot is €4,000 as on Sunday night last Orla c/o Village Flowers was drawn out of the drum and chose card number 18 which wasn’t the Joker although she did win €50. Martin Lavan and Michael “Cowboy” Cosgrave won €25 each.  As well as our group of ticket sellers tickets can be purchased from Convenience Store Ballinroad, Village Flowers, Spar, Mousies Takeaway, Minnies Bar and Crottys Corner Bar.

Intermediate Football

This Friday night our Intermediate Footballers play Ballinamelia in the Western Semi Final at 8pm in Fraher Field.

Senior Football

On Saturday August 15^th our Senior Footballers will get their Championship campaign underway after a break of many weeks when they play The Nire in Fraher Field in a game which will double up as the Phelan Cup Final.

Best Of Luck

On behalf of all in the club we would like to wish the Waterford Senior Hurlers the very best of luck ahead of this Sunday’s All Ireland Semi Final against Kilkenny.

Booking of Fields

With a number of teams starting back training we would like to remind all team managers to please ensure that they book the field with Michael O’Donovan prior to training.

Club Bingo

Our Club Bingo will continue this Sunday night in the CBS Hall where the jackpot is €800.

Juvenile Notes - 5th August

Minor Hurling

On Wednesday night last our minor hurling team played Clann na Gael in the third round of the county championship at the Burgery. After a very good display on the night our lads came away with their third win in the championship. The Kieran Lennon Memorial Trophy was also up for grabs on the night and this was presented to our team captain after the game by Kieran’s wife Teresa on behalf of the Lennon family. We would like to thank the Lennon family for their help and co operation with the staging of this event annually.

Under 16

Our under 16 hurling team play near neighbours Dungarvan in the third round of the county championship on Saturday evening next in Abbeyside. We wish everyone involved well.

Under 15

Our under 15 football team were in action again last Saturday where they played two games. They played both St Olivers and the Brickies and came away with victory in both.

Under 14

On Monday night last we played Lismore in the championship. On the night we were too strong for our opponents and this win now sets up a Western Final date against the Brickies. This will be played this Thursday night at Fraher Field at 5.45. Yet again we wish everyone involved all the very best.

This win completed a three-in-a-row of divisional titles and was followed later by the County title, secured by beating De La Salle also at Fraher Field.
