Club Notes - 25th November

Intercounty
On Saturday last the Waterford senior hurlers had an excellent victory over Clare in the All Ireland Quarter Final. This was a very enjoyable game and it’s fantastic to see the team play with a bit of flair and confidence again. Once again, the 2 Village lads acquitted themselves more than admirably with Conor confidently anchoring the defence and Neil putting in a very energetic shift when introduced, including a super point. Next up is Kilkenny in the semi final next Saturday in Croke Park at 6.00pm. Best of luck to all involved.

Deise Draw 2020
The next draw will take place on 02nd December. As this is one of our primary fundraising streams, we’d appeal to all our members and supporters to purchase a ticket from any committee member or promoter if you haven’t already done so.

Jack The Joker
The ever-popular Jack The Joker draw took place on Monday night last. Alan & Jane Olive were drawn and picked number 27. When turned this was not the The Joker, but they did win €50. Alan Daly and David Hickey won €25 each. The jackpot next week will be €1,200.

Club Notes - 18th November

 AGM
The committee had their 1st online meeting last week where a number of items were discussed. Primary amongst these was in relation to the holding of our Annual General Meeting for this year. Given the obvious constraints on gatherings it was decided unanimously to postpone until the new year. Hopefully restrictions will have eased by then so affording all members the opportunity to attend.

Intercounty
On Sunday last the Waterford senior hurlers put in a fine display in the Munster Final against Limerick. Unfortunately, we came out on the wrong side in a close fought game and all involved can be proud of their efforts. There is no time however for the players to rest on their laurels as next Saturday at 3.45 Clare await in the All Ireland quarter final. We wish Liam Cahill and his charges all the very best and in particular of course Conor Prunty, who will once again captain the team and Neil Montgomery.

Hugh O Neil was drawn and picked number 1. When turned this was not the The Joker, but he did win €50. Mike Briggs and Laura, Kieran & Darragh won €25 each. The jackpot next week will be €1,100.

Memory Lane
This week's photo shows jubilant Abbeyside players, mentors and supporters following a seven point victory over Ballygunner in the replay of the 2004 U21 'A' County Hurling Final. The original fixture ended all-square at 1-14 a piece in one of the best hurling games in Waterford that year. The win secured only the club's second title at this grade and the first since 1966.

Club Notes - 11th November

Intercounty
On Sunday next Waterford play Limerick in the 2020 Senior Hurling Munster Final. We wish Liam Cahill and his charges all the very best and in particular of course Conor Prunty, who will once again captain the team and Neil Montgomery. It’ll be strange watching on from afar but hopefully the team can do the business and bring a little cheer to us all.

Deise Draw 2020
The latest draw took place last week and there were 2 club winners, with Kevin Ford and Kate Cullinane both winning €250.

Brian Looby was drawn and picked number 9. When turned this proved to be The Joker so Brian won the jackpot of €4,000. Sean Gormley and John Elsted won €25 each. The jackpot next week will be €1,000.

Memory Lane
This week's photo shows the Ballinacourty team that beat the Nire, 0-6 to 0-5, to win the Western Junior Football League in 1997 in Touraneena.  This year also saw the club win the Western Junior Hurling League, thus completing a rare league double.

Club Notes - 4th November

Intercounty
There were contrasting fortunes for both Waterford Senior teams in championship action last Saturday.
First up at 3.30 the hurlers took the field, led by our own Conor Prunty to take on Cork. This is the 1st time an Abbeyside player has been captain of the senior hurlers in a championship encounter and is tremendous honour for Conor himself and a huge source of pride to his family and the club.
It was great to see the team play with a bit of flair and no little drive and determination to come out on top and book a return to the Munster Final. Both our lads acquitted themselves admirably with Conor putting in an assured and rock steady shift at full back and Neil Montgomery winning some valuable possessions when introduced. Well done to all involved and we look forward now to a clash with Limerick on the 15th of November.

Unfortunately, there was to be no such good news story from Fraher Field that evening as Limerick ran out winners. Hard luck to all involved, especially club players Aaron Beresford, Brain Looby and James Beresford.

Deise Draw 2020
The 3rd draw took place last week and unfortunately there were no club winners. The next installment takes place this week. As this is one of our primary fundraising streams, we’d appeal to all our members and supporters to purchase a ticket from any committee member or promoter if you haven’t already done so.

Jack The Joker
The ever-popular Jack The Joker draw took place on Monday night last. Eoin Kiely was drawn and picked number 42. This however wasn’t the Joker but he did win €50. Carmel Power and Teresa Mc Govern also won €25. The jackpot next week will be €4,000.

Memory Lane
As the playing season winds down we thought it would be an idea to reprise our look down memory lane. This week we feature the the Abbeyside Minor Football team who won the Western title beating Ballinameela before going down to Tramore in the County Final.
