Well Kids!
The "Well Kids!" programme is an initiative driven by Déise Óg where children of four years old can begin to experience our games in a fun and accessible way through a variety of games and activities. It's a fantastic way to introduce your child to team activities and exercise and a safe and fun environment. Call out any Saturday morning at 10:30am and there's no need to bring any equipment, everything will be provided.

U10
It has been an unbelievably busy week for our U10 hurlers. On Monday (15th July) they played a Cappoquin and the Brickeys in Cappoquin. Thursday (18th July) saw them host Clan na Gael and St. Pats in the Burgery and on Saturday (20th July) they embarked on a mighty day out!  They piled onto the bus in Coolagh at 11:30 and headed across the border into Kilkenny. They played a really well organised blitz hosted by James Stephens, with Mooncoin also taking part. Even though a lot of the panel are away on holidays etc we were still able to field two teams and competed really well with our Kilkenny counterparts. It was lovely to see the skills from all the boys as well as the spirit in which the games were played.
James Stephens laid on a fantastic spread of refreshments afterwards which was really appreciated by everyone.
The boys didn't hang around too long though because next on the itinerary (after a quick pit stop in McDonalds) was Walsh Park to support our seniors in the first round of the championship. Big thanks to Joe Cleary who kept a steady pace on the bus and ensured we were on schedule.
The young Village boys sang and chanted all the way to Keane's Road and took up a good vantage point in the stand to cheer on their clubmates against Ferrybank. It was lovely to see all the blue and gold jerseys invade the pitch at half time for a puck around and a convincing win for the seniors capped off a fantastic day of hurling, friendship and fun. The boys were a credit to the club throughout the day and are looking forward to continuing their hurling throughout the summer. They play Dungarvan and St Pats this coming Saturday. Keep it going boys!

U15
The U15 hurlers had a good win against De La Salle at home on Monday (15th July). It wasn't an easy encounter but the boys were in control throughout and won with a scoreline of 1-11 v 0-9. Next up is another home fixture against Clan na Gael on Monday 29th July so please come out and support the boys.

U13
Our U13 hurlers were on the road last night, travelling to the city to play Mount Sion for round 2 of the division 1 county championship. They were assisted by a strong wind in the first period and lead by three points at half time. The boys showed impressive fight and plenty of hurling ability into the wind for the second half and took the victory on a score of 1:10 to 1:06. Well done lads!

Academy
It was a little damp on Saturday but it was great to be out in the field to witness the hustle and bustle of our young hurler and footballers.  We had a full complement of teams apart from our U9's who took a spin over the river Colligan to take part in a blitz hosted by our neighbours in Dungarvan.  Make sure to come along any Saturday morning to join in on the fun.

U9 Hurlers

U15
Monday 24th June saw our U15 division 1 hurlers make the trip to Ballymac to take on Fourmilewater in the first round of the championship.  It was a tight affair throughout and both teams shared the spoils at full time, with a score line of 1:17 to 2:14.  Next up for the boys is another away fixture in Lismore on Monday 1st July.  Good luck lads.

Academy
Our academy continues every Saturday morning through the summer.  It's a great opportunity for boys aged between 5 and 10 to get active and play team sports in a welcoming team environment.

U10
It was a very busy weekend for our enthusiastic U10 group.  On Saturday morning the boys donned the Ballinacourty jerseys to play football out in Aglish in the Déise Óg football series.  The boys played the hosts St. Olivers and St. Mary's.  Each of the boys played two matches and really enjoyed challenges put up to us by our opponents.
It was a quick change of jersey on Sunday morning to put on the blue and gold for hurling.  We hosted Ballygunner and an Ghaeltacht in glorious sunshine and the hurling that all the boys produced reflected the weather.  It was a really enjoyable morning and the boys are looking forward to a long summer of hurling.
We were down on numbers this weekend due to holidays etc. but we were still able to field two teams on both Saturday and Sunday morning.  Playing matches is what it's all about and they will bring the boys on!  Thanks to the parents for the support and for the giant box of ice-pops which were welcomed by all after the matches!  Thanks to our jersey sponsor Mousie's.

U13
Well done to our U13 hurlers who hit the ground running in the division 1 hurling championship.  They had a convincing win this evening over Clonea Power on Thursday (20th June).  The field was immaculate and the boys made great use of it.  Next up is Mount Sion and they travel to the city on Wednesday (26th June).

Academy Update
Our boys academy runs every Saturday morning from 10am at our club grounds (X35 E896).  If you have a boy between the age of 5 and 10 bring them along to join in on the fun.  The field was busy again on Saturday morning with coaching sessions and matches.

U10
After all the wind and rain on Thursday morning (13th June) the evening turned out to be very suitable for a game of football and our U10's made the most of it.  They welcomed Na Gaeil and Clashmore/Kinsalebeg as part of the Deise Óg U10 football series.  It was a really enjoyable evening's football for all the children that took part.

U10 Footballers

U11
On Saturday morning (15th June) Kinsale were the visitors to the field to play hurling against our U11 boys.  Kinsale were similar in numbers to us so we lined out three teams with each of the 25 boys getting a good hour's hurling. It was an excellent run out for the Village boys and the refreshments (kindly provided by our enthusiastic parent group) were well deserved.  We'll look forward to making the return journey.

U12
Our U12s had a busy week. On Tuesday (11th June) they hosted Killeagh in a challenge match that was a fantastic test for both teams.  This match set the lads up for another tough encounter against St Pats on Friday evening (14th June).  The trip to Colligan saw both teams put on an entertaining display of hurling for those that travelled.  The boys battled until the final whistle and showed great maturity to see out the game.

U14
Our U14's bowed out of the U14 division 1 championship last Monday (10th June) in the semi final stage.  The boys lost out to Lismore on a scoreline of 3:12 to 3:08.  They struggled to get going in the first half but came roaring back into the game in the second period with a very strong performance.  It really was in the mix in the last five minutes as they closed the gap to two points but Lismore did enough to clinch it.  Best of luck to Lismore in the county final.

Academy Update
The craic was mighty again on Saturday morning at the field.  We had the U5's & U6's in the astroturf, the U7's were out on the grass while the U10's were honing their hurling skills on the back pitch.
Our U9 hurlers had three really enjoyable matches against Mount Sion on the main pitch.  The numbers were great the hurling was fast and flowing.
The U8's were off-site in Ballinameela playing a blitz.  We welcome anyone who would like to participate in the fun on a Saturday morning so feel free to contact us on our socials or just call out any Saturday morning at 10am.

U13
Our U13's hosted Roanmore on Wednesday evening at the field.  This was a real humdinger with both teams going score for score through the whole match.  The village boys clinched it in the final minutes with a very well taken goal.

U14
The U14 hurlers played Mount Sion on Monday (3rd June) in the Burgery.  This was the division 1 quarter final of the hurling championship and it turned out to be a bit of a nail biter.  The Abbeyside boys took an early lead but with a few minutes to go in the first half they left the monastery men back in to the game by conceding a couple of goals.  Mount Sion grew further into the game and with 10 minutes to go in the second half it wasn't looking good for our lads - they weren't for quitting though.  They battled fiercely hurled with intensity to score 1-02 in the last few minutes to win with a scoreline of 4:10 to 4:09.  The semi final took place on Monday 10th of June, away to Lismore.  Keep an eye on our socials for an update.

Academy Update
We're entering the busiest time of the year for our games and every Saturday morning at our club grounds there's always a huge amount of fun, enjoyment and development happening.  From our coaches in the astroturf with the youngest hurlers and footballers, through to the U10's there's always a real buzz amongst the boys as their kicking, pucking, running, jumping, falling and crawling.  It's a really enjoyable experience for any young boy between the age of 5 and 10 so contact us through our social media if you have any questions.

U10 Football
Our U10's travelled to Ballymacarbry to play a football blitz in the famed Mill Field against the Nire and Rathgormack.  It was lovely to see the spirit in which the boys played the game with enthusiastic parents and family cheering from the side line.  Some lovely team work is beginning to emerge and the boys are really enjoying the experience.  It's nice to see them working for each other and encouraging each other.

U11
The U11 boys have had a very enjoyable few months so far this season.  The Deise Óg format means that they alternate between hurling and football every two weeks.  There are plenty of games for all the boys and this Monday (3rd June) they take on Cois Bhríd and Kilrossanty.

U12
Our under 12's continued their run of games last week traveling down to Roanmore.  Both teams put on a tough but fair game for the spectators with some great scores coming from both sides.  Well done lads!

The Village Poc Fada
On the bank holiday Monday morning a serious crowd of young Village hurlers descended on Abbeyside beach for the 2024 Village Poc Fada.  The lead up to this event has seen lots of young lads finding any available space on their local green or back garden to get some vital practice with their hurleys.  51 boys from our U10 and U11 panels were put into teams of three and took on the 2KM long course.  They started underneath the abbey and struck for the Cove where they had to turn to make the return trip.  Everyone remarked on the quality of the ball-striking and the adults that were keeping the score had their work cut out to keep up with the pace!  It was a really enjoyable event for the boys and thanks to the parents for turning out in numbers to support also.  We're so lucky to have a natural resource like Abbeyside beach in the heart of our village and it's great that our young village hurlers can make the most of it!  The event was topped off with goody bags kindly sponsored by Brian Enright.
Finally, well done to all the boys for helping to pick up after ourselves and to leave the beach as we found it.

Now that the U13 football championship has finished, Deise Óg are conducting trials to select the U14 football development squad for 2025.  Week two of the trials was on Sunday (2nd June) in the really well turned out Kilrossanty GAA grounds in Leamybrien.  We were well represented on the day with 12 Ballinacourty boys pitching their skills against others from across the county.  We also had a number of volunteers from the club helping to run this event and they should be credited because without the volunteers the boys won't have a chance to take part in events like this.

U14 Hurling
Monday (3rd June) sees Mount Sion come to the Burgery to play what is the quarter final of the U14 division 1 hurling championship.  We'll expect a stiff challenge from the Monastery Men especially as our boy have only recently switched from playing football.  Good luck lads!

Féile U15 Hurling
Our U15 hurlers qualified for the county feile semi final on Monday of last week. They played Lismore, Fourmilewater and Clan na Geal in the qualifier and with all three teams finishing level on points our boys qualified for the semi final on points difference.  In that semi final they played Ballygunner but unfortunately lost by three points.  Ballygunner went on to win outright, and will now represent Waterford in the national Féile competition and we wish them good luck.
