Under 16
Our county final of the under16 football championship was delayed again at the weekend due to a death in the Gaultir club. It is expected this game will go ahead sometime this week but there has been no exact date for this match at the time of writing. Best wishes go to all involved and players will be notified of the arrangements for this game by text.

Indoor Hurling
Our indoor hurling sessions have begun again in the Friary College every Friday night. Our Juvenile AGM took place on Friday night last at the clubhouse. There was a large number of people present for what turned out to be a very successful evening. The meeting was expertly run by our chairman Michael Feremcombe and we were given a run down of our finances for the year by our treasurer Kevin Tobin. On the night we also got a very comprehensive run down on club activity for 2013 from our club secretary Niamh Enright. Positions filled on the night were Chairman Michael Ferncombe, Treasurer Kevin Tobin, Secretary Niamh Enright and PRO Sean Kiely. A big thank you goes to all showed up on the night and decided to get involved in 2014 by opting onto our committee.

Senior Football
On Sunday last we made the long trip to Ennis for the semi final of the Munster Club Championship to take on Cratloe of Clare. At the end of competitive and fast paced game we were unfortunately defeated by two points. However the team gave a great account of themselves on the day and they can be proud not just of their performance on Sunday, but of their performances all year.

TEAM: S. ENRIGHT, D. COLLINS, S. O’HARE, B. LOOBY, C. MOLONEY, S. BRIGGS, R. FOLEY, J. HURNEY, G. HURNEY, M. FERNCOMBE, M. FIVES, J. O’MAHONY, M. O’HALLLORAN, J. O’BRIEN, P. HURNEY.

We would like to thank all our supporters who made the journey to Ennis on Sunday to cheer on the team, and our members who travelled on the supporters bus would like to thank Eurospar, Nugent’s Centra and Kennedys Live for providing refreshments for the bus.

Sympathy
On behalf of all in the club we would like to extend our sympathies to the family and many friends of the late Fr. Tim O’Riordan who passed away last week. Fr. Tim was one of our club Vice Presidents and had been Parish Priest of the parish for a number of years. A native of County Kerry he took a keen interest in our games and would regularly wish us luck from the altar on Sunday mornings before big matches. Once again we send our sympathies to all his family and friends.

Juvenile Notes - 20th November

 Under 13
Our under 13s played in the football county final against De La Salle last Friday night in Fraher Field. Our boys started very well, picking off some very good points in the first few minutes. They applied a lot of pressure on the DLS backs all through the first half and led at half time 2-8 to 0-1. In the second half DLS started with intent and mounted a challenge and scored 2-1 within 10 minutes of the restart. The Ballinacourty boys regrouped and soon got back on top and went on to record a deserved win 4-11 to 2-3. During this game there was some great passages of high quality football played, something the panel of players should be proud of. This was superb team effort where all players played very well. This concludes a great year for this age group, who started last February, and have now completed the under 13 Hurling and Football double.

Panel: Jake O’Riordan, Eoin Ahearne, Eoin Flynn, Johnny Treen, Meldan O’Dwyer, Cian Fagan, Sean Kent, Shane Kiely, Seanan Travers, Dean Beresford, Dathi Brunnock, Jamie Walsh, Ben Flynn, Danny Reynolds, Cian O’Riordan, James Riordan, Michael Kiely, Barry Morrissey, Ethan Raher, Daniel Raher, Oisin Hallahan, Michael Troy, David Shields, Sean Roche, David Hayes.

Under 16
Our under 16 footballers were also in county final action last weekend at the Fraher Field. This was a very tense affair throughout and we were leading when unfortunately our opponents Gaultir had a man pick up a very serious leg injury. The ambulance had to be called and the game was abandoned. We wish this player from Gaultir all the best in his recovery from what looked like a very serious injury indeed. This by all accounts was a very sad way for any game to end and everyone would like to thank those who helped the Gaultir player in any way.

Indoor Hurling
Our outdoor hurling sessions on a Saturday have now come to an end and we now move indoors to the Friary for the winter. Dates, times etc will be included in next week’s notes.

Schools
Well done to Abbeyside NS on reaching the final of the Western championship at primary school level last week. While on the day they lost to a bigger Lismore team this team played very well throughout the year. All in the club would like to thank all those involved at promoting our national sports in the schools and to all the teachers involved in training these particular teams.

U13 County Football Champions

Congratulations to our U13 footballers on their comprehensive 4-11 to 2-3 victory over De La Salle in tonight's County Final played at Fraher Field. This was a superb performance by a very talented team and completes a County double, the boys having secured the hurling title earlier in the year. We wish our U16 footballers the very best in their County Final against Gaultier at 12:00 noon on Saturday in Fraher Field.

2007 Munster Club Senior Football Championship
Semi Final Programme

On Sunday week, Ballinacourty plays in the Munster Club Senior Football Championship Semi Final against, as yet, unknown Clare opponents. The last time the club reached this stage of the provincial championship was back in 2007. This week's photo shows the official programme and team sheet for that match against Kerry side, Kilcummin. The game, played in Fitzgerald Stadium in Killarney, is one that no Ballinacourty supporter will ever forget. Level at 0-4 each at half time, the boys showed great skill and determination to win on a scoreline of 2-6 to 0-8.

Senior Football
On Sunday last our Senior Footballers recorded a very good victory over Limerick Champions Dromcollogher/Broadford in Fraher Field in the Quarter Final of the Munster Club Championship. It was great to see a large crowd of club supporters there to cheer on the team, and hopefully they can all make the journey to Clare in two weeks time for our Semi Final clash. We would also like to thank all the local businesses who supported the club by taking out an ad in the programme for the match and we also thank those who made donations to the club or purchased the programme.

This Sunday our Club Bingo moves to the Park Hotel where we are hosting a Monster Bingo with €3,000 in prizes and the Bingo gets under way at 3pm.

County Awards
On Friday night last it was announced that the late Tony Mansfield and Seamus O’Brien are to both be honored by the County Board at this year’s award function for the lifetime of service they gave to the Association but especially for their roles as GAA journalists. For many years both men reported on the GAA both locally and nationally keeping all followers of our games up to date with their insightful and respected commentaries. This is indeed a fitting and deserved tribute for Tony and Seamus’ families and all of us in the club share in their delight. Also Gary Hurney has been nominated for Footballer of the Year, whilst the Club has been nominated for Club of the Year.

Juvenile Notes - 6th November

Saturday Mornings
Outdoor hurling continues every Saturday morning from 10.30 for boys aged five and up. Helmets and hurleys can be purchased through the club at a discounted price. All newcomers are welcome.

Minor Hurling
Our minor hurling team finished their year’s activity on the bank holiday Monday last at Fraher Field. They played against the Brickeys in the Western Championship and despite playing well they conceded some soft goals and ended up defeated. This brings to an end a very busy year for our minors .A big thank you from the club goes out to all the team and management involved.

Under 16
Well done to all involved in our under 16 football team who have qualified for the county final. We played our semi final on Sunday morning last against Ardmore. After a very tough match we eventually wore down our opponents to win easily enough in the end. At the time of writing there is no date available for the county final but everyone involved with the club would like to wish this very dedicated group of young players the best of luck in that county final and hopefully like our seniors recently they can bring back another cup to Ballinacourty.

Under 13
Pride and place this week also goes out to our under 13 football team who won the Western Championship in Bushy Park on Sunday morning last against a very gallant St Olivers team. Trailing at half time our lads put in a super second half display to win this match. Special mention must go to St Olivers who made our lads work all the way for this one and they contested every ball like their lives depended on it. We showed great character in this match and this goes well for the county final which takes place either this weekend or the weekend after depending on primary schools fixtures. Best of luck to all involved. This team is going for a county double which would be a wonderful achievement for all involved.

Club Notes - 30th October

No. Drawn - 22
Jack The Joker
Our popular Jack the Joker Fundraiser will continue this Sunday night in Kennedy’s Live where the Jackpot will be €5,710 as on Sunday night the Chrissie Terry was drawn out of the drum and picked card 22 but did not find the Joker, yet she did win €50. Rossie Cosgrave and Donnacha Cosgrave won €25.

Junior Hurling County Final
On Saturday last our Junior Hurlers made the trip to Walsh Park for the County Final against Erins Own. In difficult underfoot conditions it was our opponents who made the better start to the game but a goal before half time brought us right back into contention. In the second half it was nip and tuck between the sides and with time running out Erins Own held a one point advantage. Despite the heroic efforts of the team we just couldn’t get that equalising point to give us the draw our efforts merited. Having said that we would like to heartily congratulate Erins Own on their victory. Whilst we may have fallen just short on the day the team certainly did themselves and the club proud. They played with a spirit which they have shown in all their games to date this year, and manager Michael Collins and his selector Michael Kelleher can be proud of the performance of their players.

Sympathy
On behalf of all in the club we would like to extend our sympathies to the family and friends of the late Mrs. Mai Feehan, Friars Walk who passed away recently. Mrs. Feehan was a member of the Ladies Committee for many years in the club and did a huge amount of work to help clear the debt when we moved to our present club grounds whilst her son Sean was a member of the Ballinacourty panel in 1979 and 1981 when we won the County Senior Championship. We would also like to send our sympathies to the Enright and O’Regan families, and all the friends of the late Pauline Enright who passed away last week. A minutes silence was observed in Pauline’s memory prior to our Junior Hurlers County Final on Saturday as the Enright family has given fantastic service to our club for many decades now and her husband Johnny wore the club jersey with distinction during his playing career. Finally we send our sympathies to the family and friends of the late Tony Murphy, Dungarvan who passed away recently. Tony’s brother Sean played Senior Hurling with Abbeyside in the 1970’s.
