Club Notes - 28th October

Covid Update
With the country returning to Level 5 restrictions club activity has been suspended for the duration. Given the timescales involved it is unlikely we will see a return to action in this calendar year. As such we’d like to take this opportunity to thanks all players, mentors, supporters and officials for all their efforts during the season. Like every year there were highs and lows and we must take the positives, in what was a very trying period and move onto 2021 with confidence. Hopefully we will be out the other side at that stage, and we can all get back to doing what we love, playing, coaching and supporting our great games. Until then please keep safe.

Championship 2020
The county board took the decision during the week to suspend all further club activity until the new year. Consequently, our Senior Football final is now provisionally fixed for the weekend of 20th / 21st of February.
Unfortunately, the U-20 hurling championship has been cancelled.

Intercounty
Both Waterford Senior teams are in championship action this coming Saturday and the club is well represented in both codes. First up are the hurlers who take on Cork at 3.30 in Thurles for a place in the Munster final. Conor Prunty and Neil Montgomery are members of the panel. Then at 7.00 the footballers take to the Fraher Field in a quarter final clash with Limerick. Here we have Aaron Beresford, Brian Looby and James Beresford involved. Under normal circumstances there would of course be a large club contingent in attendance at both games. This time we will have to make do with the television, but our support will be no less passionate. We wish the lads, and all involved the very best if luck.

Deise Draw 2020
The 3rd draw took place last week and unfortunately there were no club winners. The next installment is in 2 weeks time. As this is one of our primary fundraising streams, we’d appeal to all our members and supporters to purchase a ticket from any committee member or promoter if you haven’t already done so.

Jack The Joker
The ever-popular Jack The Joker draw took place on Monday night last. Martina Cosgrave was drawn and picked number 24. This however wasn’t the Joker but she did win €50. David Hickey and Jimmy Lenihan also won €25.

Sympathy
On behalf of everyone in the club we would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the Mulvihill family on the death of Maureen Mulvihill, McCarthy Ville. Her sons of course wore the club jersey with distinction for many years and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

Covid Update
On Monday the government announced that the country was returning to Level 5 restrictions. At the time of writing we are unsure what this means for us as a club. Once we fully briefed on the implications we will make publish a statement to the membership.
Please keep an eye on our Social Media accounts.

Deise Draw 2020
The 3rd draw took place last week. Unfortunately we had no winner. The next draw will take place in ealry November. Club Notes - 14th October

Covid Update
Following on from the communication from Croke Park last week suspending matches, the club took the decision on Thursday last to temporarily suspend all playing related activity. This was due to a large uptick in cases locally and as a club we felt continued collective training posed too high a risk to the wider community. These measures will be reviewed on an ongoing basis and once the situation stabilises we hope to have our players back in the field.
We understand the frustration that this will inevitably cause amongst the membership, but in these unprecedented times there can be no compromise when it comes to the safety of our players and by extension our family and friends. This cloud will pass but until then we’d ask you all to remain vigilant and continue to adhere to the published guidelines. We need to pull together as a club, a parish and a community to get through this.

We will of course provide updates as they become available.

Senior Football
The County Board issued a directive this week that the senior final versus Rathgormack will take place only after the Waterford senior intercounty teams have finished their respective seasons. There will be at a minimum a 2 week period allowed for preparation and so at the very least we are looking at a December date.

Deise Draw 2020
The 3rd draw will take place in this week. As this is one of our primary fundraising streams, we’d appeal to all our members and supporters to purchase a ticket from any committee member or promoter if you haven’t already done so.

Jack The Joker
The ever-popular Jack The Joker draw took place in Minnies on Monday night last. Laurance Power was drawn and picked number 17. This however wasn’t the Joker but he did win €50. Consequently, the jackpot rolls on to next week and will be €3,700. James Cullinane and Shane Hallahan also won €25.
This week’s draw, and all draws until further notice will take place in the clubhouse.

Club Notes - 7th October

Covid Update

We received word from Croke Park Monday lunchtime that all GAA games suspended with immediate effect. Whilst obviously disappointed given the upcoming County Final we will of course adhere stringently to the new guideline as the safety of players and members is our number 1 priority.  We will of course provide updates as they become available.

Senior Football

The Senior footballers put in a fine display against The Nire last Saturday to book a place in the County Final. On what was a perfect evening for football both teams produced an exciting game with the result in doubt right up to the end. After a slow start we began to grow into the game as the 1st half progressed and then flew out of the block in the 2nd half and established a game winning lead before the water break.

We now face off against Rathgormack in a repeat of last year’s final. This was of course originally fixed for Walsh Park next Saturday, but as outlined above the game cannot now go ahead. As of now we don’t know when the game will take place but as stated above we’ll provide updates as and when they become available.

Deise Draw 2020

The 3rd draw will take place in the coming weeks. As this is one of our primary fundraising streams, we’d appeal to all our members and supporters to purchase a ticket from any committee member or promoter if you haven’t already done so.

Jack The Joker

The ever-popular Jack The Joker draw took place in Minnies on Monday night last. Neil Moore was drawn and picked number 11. This however wasn’t the Joker but he did win €50. Consequently, the jackpot rolls on to next week and will be €3,600. Evan Collins and Michael O Halloran also won €25.
