Club Notes - 28th July

 

County Leagues

The county leagues continued last week with the final round of the hurling. In Division 1 we were beaten by Tallow (3-18 to 3-09) whilst we had a victory over Ballydurn in Division 5.
 

Intercounty

The Waterford Senior Hurlers recorded a fantastic victory over Galway in their All-Ireland Qualifier last Saturday and progress now to meet Tipperary in the Quarter Final in Cork next Saturday at 13.30. Hopefully, we see another good performance to see us progress and we wish the team and mentors the very best of luck and in particular our own lads Conor, Neil and Michael.
Also, during the week, the Cathal Sweeney was in action for the Minor Footballers, who unfortunately were defeated by Cork. On this Tuesday the minor hurlers face Tipperary in Cork with Billy O Connell, Charlie Treen, Seanie O Callaghan, Aidan Higgins and Darragh Walsh all involved. We wish, all involved the best of luck.
 

Membership

As we return, we would like to emphasis the importance of getting your membership paid as soon as possible. If you have not already done so, please contact our membership officer Kevin Tobin on 087 9954448 to arrange payment. From a playing perspective it is compulsory that you are a member as it ensures you are included in the insurance scheme. Rates for this year are Adult €150 / Student €75, Married Couple (non-playing) €70, Single (non-playing) €50 and OAP €40. Of course, members of our 300 Club are fully covered.
Kevin will be in the club grounds this coming Saturday between 10.00 and 11.30 to collect membership.
 

Jack The Joker

The ever-popular Jack The Joker draw took place on Monday night last. Ken Walsh was drawn and picked number 8. When turned this was not the Joker, but he did win €50. Mollie Phelan and Neil Moore won €25 each. The jackpot next week will be €1,200.
 

Club Notes - 21st July

County Leagues

The county leagues continued last week with the final round of the football. The Seniors recorded a 1-point victory over Gaultier on Friday last (0-13 to 1-09), whilst the Intermediate team were beaten by Rathgormack (0-11 to 3-08).
The final games in the hurling league section will take place on Tuesday 20^th July (Division 1 away to Tallow) and Wednesday 21^st July (Division 5 away to Ballydurn).
 

Intercounty

Both the Waterford U-20 teams were out of luck last week as the hurlers were beaten by Tipperary on Monday and the footballers beaten by Tipperary also. Hard luck to all involved.
There was better news from Nowlan Park on Saturday where the Senior hurlers overcame Laois in sweltering conditions in their All-Ireland Qualifier. Next up is Galway in Thurles at 14.00 on Saturday. Hopefully, we see another good performance to see us progress and we wish the team and mentors the very best of luck and in particular our own lads Conor, Neil and Michael.

Deise Super Draw 2021

The Deise Super Draw kicks off on July 29^th (please note the change of date). This has always been one of the clubs primary fundraising avenues so we would appeal to all member to please sign up and support not only the club but Waterford GAA in general. Tickets are available from any committee member.

Club Notes - 14th July

 

County Leagues

Our good start to the county leagues continued last week with both our hurling teams recording good victories. On Friday, the Seniors travelled to Roanmore and came away with a 2-16 to 1-12 victory whilst on Sunday morning in our own field the Junior’s overcame Colligan by 6 points, 1-18 to 0-15. The final games in the league section will take place on Tuesday 20^th July (Senior away to Tallow) and Wednesday 21^st July (Junior away to Ballydurn).

This week it’s back to football as the Seniors have a home fixture with Gaultier on Thursday 15^th at 19.30 and the Intermediates entertain Rathgormack on Sunday at 12.00.  

 

Intercounty

The Waterford U-20 footballers scored a superb victory over Clare last Thursday and we’d like to extend our heartiest congratulations to all involved, especially to our own lads Colin Foley and DJ Kiely. Next up is a trip to Thurles on Thursday to take on Tipperary in the Muster Semi Final. Best of luck to all involved.

Also, in action this week were the U-20 hurlers who played Tipperary on Monday evening. Obviously at time of writing we don’t know the result, but hopefully we can report on a positive result next week. Michael Kiely is on the panel and Shane Briggs a member of the management team.

Following defeat to Clare the Senior hurlers begin their journey through the Qualifiers with a game in Nowlan Park this Saturday at 14.00. Hopefully, we can get out season back on track and we wish the best of luck to all involved and in particular to our own lads, Conor, Neil and Michael.

This has always been one of the clubs primary fundraising avenues so we would appeal to all member to please sign up and support not only the club but Waterford GAA in general. Jack The Joker

The ever-popular Jack The Joker draw took place on Monday night last and after rolling over for a long period the jackpot of €4,400 was won by Louise Kennedy with number 24. Mary Rose O Connell and E Tobin won €25 each. The jackpot next week will be €1,000.

 

Club Notes - 7th July

 

County Leagues

The county leagues resumed last week following our enforced break. On Wednesday both the Senior and Intermediate football teams were in action. The Seniors scored a good win over The Brickeys whilst the Intermediates were defeated by Stradbally.
This week it’s back to hurling as the Seniors play away to Roanmore on Friday at 7.30. Meanwhile the Juniors have a home game versus Colligan on Sunday at 12.00.  
 

WLR/Granville Hotel GAA Award

Congratulations to Conor Prunty on winning WLR/Granville Hotel GAA Award for the month of May. Conor put in a man of the match display against All Ireland champions Limerick in Round 3 of the Allianz National Hurling League.  This is a well deserved honour and we wish Conor and his teammate the very best for the remainder of the championship.
