Juvenile Notes - 28th May

Under 14
Our Under 14’s played the Feile Hurling County Final on Wednesday evening in Fraher Field against Mt. Sion. It took a while for the boys to settle into their rhythm and had a 4 point lead at half time. In the second half we began to play better hurling and won the game 4-9 to 1-1. This was a great achievement for this panel of players having won the Feile Football a few weeks back. This is the second consecutive year the club has achieved this feat.
However the players had no time to rest and enjoy their great win as they had to play the Under 14 Football County Final on Saturday just gone in Walsh Park against De La Salle. This was a very tough game and with signs of fatigue visible in some of our players it was always going to be a tough challenge. With 10 minutess to go we trailed by 4 points. Even though our lads were out on their feet they really dug deep and rallied to win by 3 pts, 3-5 to 3-2.
For these players there is no rest either this week as the fixture list has two under 14 hurling games down for decision.
Panel: Jake O’Riordan, Eoin Ahearne, Daniel Raher , Sean Kent, Fergal Roche, Johnny Treen, Meldan O’Dwyer, Eoin Flynn, Shane Kiely, Dathi Brunnock, Jamie Walsh, Dean Beresford, Ben Flynn, Senan Travers, Cian O’Riordan, Michael Kiely, Sean Roche, Barry Morrissey, Rory Ahearne, Patrick Fitzgerald, David Hayes, Michael Troy, Oisin Hallahan, Danny Reynolds, James Riordan.

Under 13
Our under 13’s travel to Walsh Park next Saturday to play in their County Football Final against Gaultier. Please come and support these young players.
This team are out again Monday night to play in the second round of the Under 13 Hurling.

Under 16
The under 16 football concluded last Saturday. On Thursday last we travelled to Ballymacarbry to play the Nire in the U16 county semi final. This was our best game of the year and played a very good standard of football and we ran out comprehensive winners on a score line of 2-8 to 4-15. Less than 48 hours later we travelled to Walsh Park to contest the County Final against Gaultier who themselves had a big win in their semi final. This was a cracking game of football from the throw in to the final whistle, with nothing between the two teams and it took a long range free in the 60th minute to give Gaultier the victory by the minimum of margins, Ballinacourty 3-8 Gaultier 4-6.
Panel: Patrick Power, Jack Kiely, Tiernan Fagan, Shane Ahearne, Tommie Walsh, Padraig Moore, Bearach Moore, Mark Twomey, Darragh McGrath, Ryan Daly, Tom Looby, Sean Whelan Barrett, Michael O’Riordan, James Beresford, John Power, David Montgomery. Aaron Beresford, Neil Montgomery, Tony Collins, Gearoid Hallanan Shane Kiely, James Riordan, Dathi Brunnock, Ben Flynn.
A big thank you to everyone involved and hopefully this heartbreaking defeat will be a character building experience in the future.

Last Sunday our under 13’s played in the Western football final. This was a good game with some great displays by many players throughout. We were always holding the scoring advantage and won 3-12 to 1-4. We now head to Walsh Park for the county final on 31st  May.

Under 9
We continued the West hurling and football league last Monday evening (6th) with both groups playing at home on a wet and windy night in Abbeyside. Group one came up against a strong Fourmilewater outfit with our visitors taking the spoils while group two met Clashmore and recorded a fine victory. Group one will have concluded on Monday the 12th with football against the Nire, report next week and group two still to meet Clashmore (football) Cappoquin & Ballyduff (both codes) Finally, congratulations to our boys in Garranbane who made their First Holy Communion Saturday 10th and best wishes to the lads in Abbeyside who make it this Saturday 17th.

Outdoor Hurling
Please note that there will be no outdoor hurling this Saturday morning due to the Abbeyside Communion taking place.

Minor Football
Our minor footballers bowed out of the championship at the semi final stage on Sunday last in the Fraher Field against a very strong Nire team. We played well here but just came up short at the finish after a tremendous second half display. We would like to thank all mentors and players for all the efforts over the past couple of months. We were not too far away and this group has the potential to go on and improve as adult players. We would like to congratulate the Nire also and wish them well in the western final.

The under 14 hurling Féile final took place on Wednesday against Mount Sion in the Fraher Field. At time of going to print the result of this match was unavailable but will be included in next week’s notes.

Under 9
On a beautiful Monday evening (Apr 28th) in Abbeyside, group one played Lismore in football. After a close and entertaining match the boys came out on top, more than making up for the disappointment of the hurling the week previous. Unfortunately the lads in group two had no game as Tallow were not able to travel. On Tuesday last (May 6th) both groups hopefully will have played FMW and Clashmore at the club grounds in hurling. Report will be included in next week’s notes.

Our minor football team plays in the county semi final this Sunday morning against the Nire. The Nire should have defeated us in the round robin series and a big improvement all round will be required here if we are to come away with victory.
