Club Notes - 22nd February

Jack The Joker

Our ever popular Jack the Joker fundraiser continues this Sunday night in Crotty’s Bar where the jackpot is €6,200 as on Sunday Roisin Briggs was drawn out of the drum and chose card number 25 which wasn’t the Joker but she did win €50. Michael O’Donovan and Rosario Donovan won €25 each. As well as our group of ticket sellers tickets can be purchased from Village Flowers, Spar, Mousies Takeaway, Minnies Bar, Abbeyside Post Office and Crottys Corner Bar.

Membership

As the playing season draws ever nearer we would ask all members both playing and ordinary to please get your membership paid as soon as possible. It can be paid to Membership Officer Pat Keane, or any Committee Member. The onus is on intending members to hand their membership fee over and players should be aware that they are not eligible to play for the club if they don’t pay their membership.

Field Bookings

We ask that all team managers book their times for training / matches with Michael O’Donovan in advance of returning to training. Managers must notify Michael in advance if they wish to change from their allocated time.

Post Primary Schools Games

On Saturday last St. Augustine’s College had a fantastic win over Coláiste Treasa Kanturk in the Munster Colleges Senior Hurling Final in Golden. There was a very strong club representation on the team with 7 starters on the team and two more introduced as subs with many more included in the panel. It was great to see so many supporters from the club present to cheer on the team, and it was wonderful to see Neil Montgomery accepting the trophy after the game. We thank the teachers who put so much work into preparing the team, and wish the team the very best of luck in this Saturday’s Munster Football Final in Bansha where they take on Clare side Spanish Point at 12:30pm. Again we appeal to as many supporters as possible to get along and support the team as they attempt to win a Munster Double.

Our club bingo session continues in the CBS Hall this Sunday night with a jackpot of €550.

Katie Briggs and Brian Byrne won €25 each. Inter County Games

All in the club would like to congratulate Stephen Enright, Brian Looby, Michael O’Halloran and Patrick Hurney and indeed all the Waterford Senior Footballers on their second win in the NFL as on Saturday night last they defeated Wicklow in Carriganore. In two weeks time they play Wexford in round three of the league.

Post Primary Schools Games

This Saturday St. Augustine’s College will play Coláiste Treasa Kanturk in the Munster Colleges Senior Hurling Final in Cahir at 12:30 pm. All in the club wish the team, especially our own club players the very best of luck and we ask as many members as possible to get along to the game and support the team.

Club Leisure Wear

The designs for our new club leisure wear can now be viewed on the club website and Facebook page. So far there has been an extremely good response to the gear, which will be worn by all our teams in 2017 and 2018. It is available from size 5/6 years right up to all adult sizes, and it is open to all our club supporters and players to purchase the gear. As it will personalised with initials we will require full payment upfront when ordering the gear. Orders will be taken in the clubhouse on Friday night February 10^th from 6:45 to 8pm, Saturday February 11^th from 11am to 12pm and Sunday February 12^th from 11am to 12pm. Please note we will not be accepting any orders after February 12^th.

Inter County Games

Third Level and Post Primary Schools Games

On Tuesday last UCC defeated DCU/St.Pat’s in the first round of the Sigerson Cup and it was great to see Brian Looby getting a game in this prestigious competition and we wish Brian the best of luck ahead of their quarter final today against Carlow IT.

Meanwhile St. Augustine’s College continued their excellent run of victories on Saturday last with a dramatic win over Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí in the Munster Senior Football Semi Final in Limerick. With time almost up the Friary lads trailed by 2 points but a goal by our own James O’Riordan ensured that St Augustine’s will contest both Munster Finals in the coming weeks and we wish them the very best in both games where a large number of our players will be involved.

National Draw

Tickets are currently for sale from all Committee members for the GAA National Draw. There are some fantastic prizes on offer such as a car and holidays, but the great thing about the draw is that the club retains all of the €10 which the ticket costs. Therefore you are doing your bit to support the club whilst also having a chance to win some fantastic prizes.

Championship Draws

The various Championship draws took place last week and can be viewed in full on our club Facebook page. In Senior Football we will play Rathgormack in the first round of new structure to the championship, whilst in Senior Hurling we play Dungarvan, Tallow, De La Salle, Ballygunner and Ballyduff Upper in that order. In under 21 Hurling we will play St Carthages in the Western Semi Final, in Junior B Hurling our opponents are Tallow, Ballyduff Upper, Fourmilewater, Lismore and Dungarvan whilst our Junior C hurlers have plenty of games as they will take on Modeligo, Ring, Kilgobnet, Clashmore, Brickeys, Mellary, Shamrocks and Cappoquin. Our Intermediate football team will play Modeligo, Geraldines, Colligan, Stradbally, Dungarvan and Ballyduff Upper and our Junior Footballers will play Dungarvan, Kilgobnet and Geraldines. The draw for Under 21 Football was not made yet but it is likely that this team will be our first team in Championship action in 2017 in the coming weeks.
