Mini All Ireland Football Finals
Sponsored by David Walsh Office, School
& Computer Supplies
Sunday
was a marquee event for our academy boys as over 120 of them gathered to play
the finals of the Mini All Ireland Football series. In total we had 12 teams in action
representing their designated counties and it was lovely to see some great
football being played with a sense of healthy competition, while fun and
participation were at the core of it all.
Proceedings began with the traditional parade to the playing pitch which
was lead out by the Pop Up Pipers. On
arrival at the main pitch everyone stood to attention for a rousing rendition
of our national anthem before the boys broke off to begin their warm ups. Along with the large number of enthusiastic young players came a big crowd of supporters made up of family and friends who cheered on from the sidelines. The matches were hotly contested, as you might expect, and each of the boys gave their all with the encouragement of the coaches and the supporting crowds. We had 6 finals and while not everyone could be a winner on the day, each and every one of our young players got due recognition for the effort that they put in, and the all-important medals and goodie bags to mark their participation.
It was fantastic to have the support of the Walsh family on the day and the generous sponsorship of the event from David Walsh Office, School & Computer Supplies, helped to make it special for all the boys taking part. A special mention must go to young Grace and Jack who presented all the trophies and medals like true professionals – we hope to see both of them lined out in the club colours in the future! Special thanks must also go to the “Pop Up Pipers & friends”; Noel Fraher, Martin “Switchie” O'Donnell, Tony O' Shea (drummers), Gareth Higgins (Bass Drum), Liam Egan, Mary Beresford (flag bearers) and John Tynan (pipes). They volunteer their time and they add that bit of magic to the event which makes it special for the players and supporters alike.
All in all it was a great day and thanks to all the coaches for giving their time to organise the preliminary rounds and the finals but most importantly; giving their time and dedication to all of our young players. Events like this, as well as all of our other activities through the year, help to ensure that we make our games as enjoyable so that we can keep as many boys as possible, playing and having fun. Keep an eye on our social media for lots more photos and videos.
