Academy Update
After a very busy summer, our academy for boys aged 10 and younger, continues to provide a safe and fun environment for children to enjoy hurling and football while developing their skills, agility and friendships. Contact us via our Facebook page or email abbeycourtyjuvenilesec@gmail.com to find out more.

U11 Tour of Munster
in the past four weeks, our U11's had the privilege of playing hurling and football in some of the biggest and most prestigious stadiums in the country. At the end of July they played a football blitz the state of the art Páirc Uí Chaoimh and last week they played hurling in the famed home of hurling, Semple Stadium. They boys (and the coaches!) really enjoyed the days out. It's a fantastic initiative from the Munster council and it's all about developing a love of our games in young players.

U14
Our division 1 hurlers lost at home to Ballygunner last Thursday evening in the final round robin game of the championship. It wasn't for lack of effort though, the boys were missing a number of players due to holidays and injury. They now face Clonea Power in the plate final in the coming weeks.
The division 4 team take on their Ballygunner counterparts in the plate semi final on Monday (18th Aug) in the plate semi final. Best of luck boys

U16
On Monday (11th Aug) our U16's travelled to Butlerstown to take on Clan na Gael in the second last match of the round robin phase. The lads put in a good team performance to take the win and now wait a week to play De la Salle at home in the last game before knockout begins.

Bernard Shields RIP

Bernard Shields RIP
I
t was with great shock and profound sadness that all in Abbeyside / Ballinacourty GAA Club learned yesterday of the death of our Club President Bernard Shields.  Bernard was the epitome of the phrase ‘club stalwart.’
As a player, Bernard was a valued member of many of the great teams that brought glory to the club in the 1960s.  He played in every match on our way to the 1964 County Senior Hurling Final, was a member of the panel that won the County Intermediate Football Final a year later and starred at corner back on the Abbeyside team that proved victorious in the inaugural County U21 Hurling Championship of 1966.
After hanging up his boots, Bernard moved into administration, serving ably as club secretary for over two decades.  He also led the club as chairman for a number of years before receiving the honour of Club President when his term came to an end.  However, his involvement did not end there.  If anything needed to be done at the club grounds, Bernard was always on hand to help.  He was an ever-present at club and county games in Waterford and indeed all over the country.  His contribution to his beloved Abbeyside / Ballinacourty was immense, a tradition proudly continued by his family today.
We offer our deepest sympathies to Bernard’s wife, Moll, his sons Kevin, Johnny, Páidi, Séamus and Henry, his sisters Margaret, Kathleen, Breege and Rita and the extended Shields family.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

Solo Across The Parish!
On Saturday afternoon, over 70 young players — from our U12s right down to our U5s — took on the epic challenge of soloing across the parish. Starting in Ballyvoyle, on our eastern boundary with Stradbally, they followed the greenway through Clonea Lower, Garrynageragh, Tallacoolmore, Ballinroad, and Ballyrandle, before arriving in Abbeyside and finishing at Walton Park, where the banks of the Colligan mark our border with Dungarvan.
There was plenty of craic along the way, and the boys will proudly tell you that not a single sliotar was dropped for the whole journey! Marching into Walton Park decked out in club colours, they were rewarded with a well-deserved pizza feast, generously sponsored by Domino’s Dungarvan. After devouring the pizza and enjoying an impromptu Poc Fada competition, the final leg was a short hop to Fraher Field to cheer on our seniors against the Brickey Rangers.
It was a fantastic day that not only raised funds for our juvenile section, but also showcased the incredible club spirit among players, parents, and volunteers. A huge thank-you goes to the volunteers who ensured the day ran smoothly, kept everyone safe, and made sure no one went hungry.
Keep an eye on our social media for the final fundraising total and photos from the day. Finally, a special word of praise for the boys themselves — their effort, enthusiasm and excellent behaviour were a credit to the club.
