Our ever popular Jack the Joker fundraiser
continues this Sunday night in Minnie’s Bar where the jackpot is €2200 as on Monday
night Jack Duggan was drawn out of the drum and chose card number 16 which when
turned was not the joker, but he did win €50. Kathleen Murray and Ger Briggs won
€25 each.
Senior Football
Our Senior Footballers take on Rathgormack
this Sunday in the County Final in Fraher Field as we attempt to win the County
Championship for the first time since 2013. We appeal to all our supporters to
please come out and support the team.
Junior Hurling
This Saturday we play St Mary's in the Western
Final in Fraher Field at 2pm. Again we ask all our supporters to please come
out and cheer on the team. It is surely unprecedented that players are being
asked to play finals in different codes in the space of 24 hours.
Club Bingo
Our club bingo continues in the CBS Hall this Sunday
night where the jackpot is €450.
Sympathy
On behalf of all in the club we would like to
extend our deepest sympathies the family and wide circle of friends of Laura
Cliffe who tragically passed away last weekend.
As news of Laura’s passing spread throughout the Village on Saturday
morning there was sense of shock and disbelief at the news, coupled with an outpouring
of support for her family. Along with Suzette, Laura had turned their local
business Cafe Bliss into a thriving success and it was a hub of activity in our
community. A lover of many sports Laura would fly our club colours, Waterford
or Ireland flags proudly from the top window in Café Bliss, with a New Zealand
flag also making an occasional appearance! Laura was extremely popular with her
customers, with many Saturday or Sunday morning breakfasts turning into
informal club gatherings where the weekend’s matches or events would be
discussed in depth. Laura supported all the teams in our club, both mens and
ladies, taking great interest in and getting great pride from the performances
of her nieces and nephews in the club jersey.
Cliffe’s Field was of course our home for many
years before we moved to our current location and Laura's father Larry was a
hurling missionary in our juvenile section for many years as he trained
thousands of youngsters at our Saturday morning coaching sessions. To this day
Larry and Laura's mother Margaret run our weekly bingo whilst her brothers
Damien and Raymond played for the club for many years. Laura's sisters Sandra
and Maria are some of our most loyal supporters with her nieces and nephews
maintaining the proud family link to the club to the present day.
All who knew Laura will miss her warm and
generous personality, as she was always great company in Cafe Bliss and other
social settings. Whilst she will be missed by us all, it is nothing compared to
the deep sense of loss her loved ones are going through at this time.
Once again we send our deepest sympathies to Laura's
family but especially to Suzette, Larry and Margaret and to Sandra, Maria,
Damien and Raymond and all her nieces and nephews.
