"Two Out of Three Ain't Bad"
A hectic weekend of activity on the playing fields concluded in Cappoquin on Sunday afternoon as our Junior B Hurling team exited the championship following a defeat to Lismore in the Western Final. Whilst defeat was our lot on the day, we would like to thank the players and management for the fantastic year they gave us. Many young players got their first taste of adult hurling this year and have a bright future ahead in our club. We wish Lismore the best of luck in the County Final.
Well done to our senior and junior A hurlers on their wins over the weekend. A highlight of the weekend was seeing young Jack McGrath back on the playing fields on Friday night. All in our club are thrilled to see Jack back in the club jersey after some difficult years.
We look forward to this weekend's fixtures as our Junior A Hurling team take in Kilrossanty on Friday night in Fraher Field and our Senior Hurlers travel to Walsh Park on Sunday in the County Semi Final.
Please come out and show your support for our teams this weekend.

Academy
Our academy was scaled down a bit last weekend because our grounds were in use for the Jim Power U14 intercounty football tournament. We'll be back in action this Saturday and full of energy with our young hurlers and footballers so come out and join in the fun.

U8's on the Big Stage
The local derby in the senior hurling championship brought a very big crowd to Fraher Field on Saturday and it was heartening to see so many children milling around with hurleys wearing the blue and gold. Our mighty U8 hurlers took centre stage at half time when they played our neighbours from Dungarvan GAA in an exhibition match. It may have been only a 10 minute game but it was crammed with pulling, blocking and striking and it was plain to see that all the players really enjoyed it. They were so engrossed in the match that the PA announcer on the night had to make a number of calls for them to clear the pitch so that the senior match could resume! Well done to the boys and the coaches and also the county board for facilitating this type of event.

U9
Sunday morning saw our Under-9 hurlers take to the field in Ballymacarbry for a blitz. Unfortunately, one of the opposing teams was forced to pulled out at the last minute. However we got 2 games going by drafting in some Under-10 and Under-11 lads from both Abbeyside and Fourmilewater who just happened to have their helmets and hurleys in the car, “just in case”!!
Both teams played with plenty of energy, and the blend of ages worked surprisingly well, making for a morning of enjoyable hurling. There was plenty of competitive edge on show with all the sets of brothers on the pitch, and the younger lads on both teams were unwilling to take a backward step from the older lads. I suspect there was plenty of debate about some of the tackles in a number of the cars on the way home!!
Big thank you to Fourmilewater for their hospitality on the morning and great attitude and encouragement on the sidelines for all the players.

U10
Our U10's boy have been very busy with matches lately and there are yet more to come. On Saturday morning they host Ballygunner in round 3 of the Déise Óg hurling series and the following Saturday the boys will travel to represent our club in the annual Dick Roche tournament in Mount Sion. There will be plenty time for practice in between and no doubt the boys will make the most of it.

U12
Our U12s have been kept busy on the road with games over the last while. In hurling, they travelled to Ballyduff Upper which saw the lads put on a great display. In football, they travelled to De La Salle and picked up where the hurling left off and put on another impressive display.

U15
Our U15 hurlers travelled to Ballygunner on Monday 12th August in round 6 of the division 1 hurling championship. The city team claimed the victory on the night, but our boys are still focused on driving forward to try and secure a place in the semi finals. They play the last round robin match against Roanmore, in Waterford, on 26th August.
