‘Win A House In Waterford’ Draw
We ask all our supporters to please support the
Win a House in Waterford draw, which is ongoing at present. Along with our Camogie and Ladies Football
clubs, we are seeking to raise enough money through this draw to build toilets
and dugout on our new pitch. As well as
having a chance to win a fantastic prize you will be helping us provide better
facilities for all our members.
Tickets are available from any club committee
member or online at www.winahoiseinwaterford.com. If purchasing online, please remember to use
the drop-down menu to select Abbeyside Ballinacourty as your club.

Academy Update
Our academy for boys aged 5 to 10 continues every
Saturday morning from 10am. There’s no better way for children to learn the
skills of our games, build friendships, and have fun – so come along any
Saturday and you’ll be guaranteed a warm welcome.

We continue to field two teams in the Déise Óg
games series, and last week the boys donned their gumshields and gloves for
some great football action. On Monday, a panel travelled to Lismore to take on
the hosts and An Ghaeltacht, while on Tuesday, another group headed for
Carrickbeg to face St. Molleran's. Both evenings were thoroughly enjoyable and
offered valuable game time for all involved.
Come the weekend, it was out with the hurleys and
helmets as we welcomed St. Mary’s (Clonmel) to the Burgery. The boys played two
competitive and entertaining matches against the Tipperary side. Having the
chance to test themselves against teams from outside the county over the last
couple of weeks has been a fantastic experience, and we look forward to more of
the same during the summer – both home and away.

Like the U11s, the U12 boys are enjoying a great
mix of hurling and football. On Friday evening, Tramore visited the Burgery and
the Ballinacourty lads delivered a fine display of skill and teamwork.
Sunday brought a big day out as two teams
travelled to Midleton for hurling games against their Cork hosts. Both
Abbeyside teams played really well in breezy conditions and had a brilliant
time. For many, there was just enough time to refuel before making the trip to
Páirc Uí Chaoimh to cheer on clubmates Conor and Mikey in the Cork vs Waterford
Munster Championship clash. A long day – but a memorable one!
Under 14
The U14 footballers followed up their win over
Gaultier with another impressive victory, this time against a strong Lismore
side in round three of the Division 1 Championship. A combination of solid
teamwork and sharp finishing up front helped secure a 4-07 to 3-07 win. They
now look ahead to their round four clash with Rathgormack on Monday, 26th May.
Best of luck, lads – keep it going!
Our U14 second team had no fixture last week and
will sit out this week as well. They’re awaiting a rescheduling of their round
one match, and in the meantime, it’s back to training.
Under 16
The U16 hurling championship is just around the
corner, and preparations are well underway. The boys had a strong outing in a
challenge match against Fourmilewater in Ballymac on Sunday morning, and
they’re eagerly anticipating competitive games ahead.
Poc Fada Champion
Huge congratulations to Seán Óg O'Regan, who
recently won the County U16 Poc Fada and will now represent us at the Munster
competition. A fantastic achievement – well done, Seán Óg!
Young Whistlers
The GAA’s Young Whistlers programme
certifies boys and girls aged 16 and older to referee Go-Games (U12 and
younger) in both hurling and football. With a significant shortage of referees
in Waterford, this initiative offers a valuable pathway for young people to get
involved.
We’re proud to have several young members who’ve
completed the course and are now regularly officiating our Go-Games fixtures.
They bring excellent knowledge of the game, apply the rules fairly, and—perhaps
most importantly – have a great rapport with the young players.
Supporting young referees is vital for the future
of our games, and it’s important that we all do our part in treating referees,
young and old, with the respect they deserve.
Thanks to all our young whistlers – we’ll be
keeping you busy this summer!
