This week's photo shows the Abbeyside U14 team that won the first Western Hurling Championship held at this grade in 1970. The young boys narrowly defeated Tallow by 3-2 to 2-3 at Lismore in the final. A free trip to Croke Park was an added bonus to the divisional title. Disappointingly, a 2-2 to 0-3 loss to Stradbally in the Western Football Final denied them the double.
