Outdoor Hurling started last Saturday
It was great to see so many new recruits out last Saturday morning for the beginning of the 2012 season for the younger age groups. We had hoped to start the week previous but we cancelled it on the basis of the weather being too cold and miserable.
Just a reminder that outdoor hurling will take place every Saturday morning for the summer for the under 6’s ,7’s & 8’s.
Children must be at least 5 years old (Born in 2006) to start.
We would especially welcome any new members to our Saturday morning outdoor hurling sessions.
Training starts at 10.30am and finishes at 12 noon and costs €2.
Parents/guardians must stay in attendance for the younger age groups.
Yearly membership costs €15 for the 1st child and €10 for each other child. Hurleys can be purchased from the club for €10 each. We can also provide helmets for these sessions or alternatively they can be purchased for €50 each.

Under 9’s (players born in 2003)
Generally, hurling training on Wednesday evenings at 6.00pm – 7.00pm and Friday evening training from 6.00pm to 7.30pm. Teamers will be sent out for each session. Parents are asked to reply to the teamers after each text as each team are only allowed a certain number of free teamer texts.

Under 9 Hurling Matches
One of our Under 9 teams were in action last week when we travelled out to Aglish to play St. Oliver’s. All players did very well which resulted in a great team performance.
Well done to all concerned.

Membership Forms
Membership forms and Code of Conduct forms for most age groups have been given out Coaches are asked for their assistance in getting this done in an orderly and efficient manner and parents/guardians and players are asked to sign, complete and return as soon as possible.
Many thanks to all of those who have already completed and returned their forms, your prompt co-operation is much appreciated.

Walk a Mile, Share a Smile
Last Monday evening we concluded this season’s Walk a Mile, Share a Smile with the final walk and the presentation of cheques in the Stables afterwards.
At the presentation Brendan O’Brien presented four cheques, one to Abbeyside/Ballinacourty Juvenile section for €1000, one to SERT, one to Fisherman's Fund and one to the Marimanti Appeal.
Brendan and his team are already planning a team walking event to start next October, more details to follow.
A huge debt of gratitude must go to Brendan O’Brien from all concerned for his great fundraising ideas which saw over €3,000 raised in this season’s Walk a Mile event.
Well done to the walkers and all who contributed to all the charities.

Communions
Best wishes to all our Abbeyside / Ballinacourty players who over the next few weeks will receive their first holy communion. Training schedules for the kids in the under 9’s will be slightly different over the coming weeks as a result.
Teamers will be sent out as usual for training and matches.

Mini Sevens
Many congratulations to the Scoil Mhuire N.S team who recently completed the ‘double’ in Walsh Park. They boys won the County title in hurling and football to add to their Western titles in both codes. This is a fantastic achievement for the boys involved and is the first time this has ever been done in our history. Thanks to all the teachers who helped the lads all along the way, particularly Mr. Walsh and Mr. Patwell who travelled with the lads on the day.  Well done again.

Under 16
Our under 16 footballers received a walkover from Roanmore this week as Roanmore where unable to field a team.

Under 13/14
We travelled to Stradbally on Thursday last to play in the final match of the qualifying rounds of the under 13 football Div 3 championship. This was a very close game through out and we held a one point advantage at half time playing with a strong breeze. The second half both teams upped their performance with everyone of our lads playing good tough football to the very end and won by a goal 2-6 to 3-6. This has qualified this team to the western semi finals next Sunday. Both under 13 teams are now through to the semi final stages of this championship.
Panel: John Power, Jack Dwane, Paddy Dwane, Cian Power, Sean Kent, Meldan Dwyer, Cian Fagan, Jake O’Riordan, Jamie Walsh, Michael Kiely, Ben Flynn, Fergal Roche, Ruiari Cusack and Eoin Ahearne.

Under 13
We travelled to St Finbarr’s in Cork city on Saturday to take part in their annual U13 Hurling competition. In our group games we had good wins against Blackrock and Holycross with all.
our players playing very well and our forwards in particular getting some great scores. In our 3rd game we came up against a very committed Na Piarsaigh side who just about ran out winners by the final whistle.  A  fine lunch was then welcomed by all courtesy of St Finbarrs. Many thanks for this to St Finbarrs.
Our 2 wins in the morning put us through to the semi-final against our Waterford neighbours De Le Salle. We built up a fine wind assisted first half lead. Our defence held firm in the second half and our fine performance here put us through to the final for a second chance against Na Piarsaigh. However playing with the wind in the first half we only had a 1 point lead by half time. Na Piarsaigh went on to score a few goals in the second half to get a well earned win. Our players graciously received their runners up medals and should be proud of themselves for their fine performances.
Against the top u13 teams in Munster. A speedy recovery to Sean Crotty & Jack Kiely for injuries received.
Panel: Aaron Beresford, Jack Kiely, Shane Ahearne, Mark Twomey, Tommy Walsh, Padraig Moore, Gearoid Hallahan, Bearach Moore, Tom Looby, Sean Whelan Barrett, Shane Kiely, Jamie Walsh, James Riordan, Sean Crotty, Johnny Treen, John Power, Sean Kent, Michael Kiely.

U12/ U11
We played 2 U12 league hurling games last Friday evening in Abbeyside. First up was division 3 versus Ardmore and after playing some fine hurling we conceded 3 second half goals to let Ardmore get victory.
In the division 1 game versus Cois Brid we were much too strong for Cois Brid and ran out easy winners. Many thanks to some of our U10 players who helped us field 2 teams due to some of our regular players being on holidays or injured.

Next Friday evening U11’s away to Dungarvan and St. Pats.
